The School caters for pupils from the age of 4 – 11 who are studying at Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 of the National Curriculum. There are eighteen classes that have pupils of varying abilities. The organisation of the classes depends on year group numbers.
To accommodate the number of children who apply to Wentworth in both key stages we arrange our classes so that some are mixed age.
Following our expansion the standard number on entry to the school is 90 pupils. We have eradicated the need for vertically grouped classes in foundation and KS1, the school will continue its expansion until each year group has 3 straight classes.
At Key Stage 2 there is no limit to the number of pupils in a class. However the quality of learning and the practical concerns of classroom accommodation have to come into consideration.
While vertical grouping remains in Year 5 and 6, the curriculum is carefully planned to ensure there is no repetition.
Where felt appropriate, year groups will be set for core subjects of English and Maths. This allows teachers to target effectively levels of learning for children of varying ability. The placement of children is reviewed regularly and groupings are fixed dependent on teacher assessment and pupil performance.
The weekly hours for contact teaching is 26 hours 40 minutes. The Staff will be on duty from 8.45 a.m. onwards. Children should arrive at school on time. Children who are late cause disruption to the class.
There are some changes to this timetable as we operate under Government guidance on educating children during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
