PGL Windmill Hill Year 6 Day 2

Another great day for the children. After being woken by Mr Ketley’s infamous bugle (although there were many awake before this!), children set out into the beautiful spring morning for day 2 at PGL.

They enjoyed a hearty breakfast to prepare for the day and it was great to see children being so independent in getting all of their belongings together for a full day on site.  There were definitely a few bleary eyes, and some aiming for more sleep on night two, whilst others were boasting getting a full 8 hours!

Maya demonstrated true resilience on abseiling. After an unsuccessful first attempt, she sat and contemplated what to do, before heading up the tower and abseiling down like a pro! We’ve also noticed Gracie helping others and being involved with absolutely everything. Florence is also now a certified carabiner clip expert, having put in a full shift on unclipping all of her friends on abseiling.

Oliver impressed on Jacob’s ladder by making it all the way to the top - not to be underestimated given he was solo climbing.  Ethan pushed himself to go just a little bit further than he thought he could, asking “Can I do one more?” after initially saying he wasn’t going to even attempt it! Ginny, Florence and Bridhi were a true team on the ladder - working out a clear strategy for getting each other as high as they possibly could.  Mia has shown herself as a real leader, giving commands to her friends who seem to be really listening to her and wanting her advice - great job Mia.

The sensory trail encouraged the children to rely on each other and communicate as they moved blindfolded around a woodland trail. It also provides a great opportunity for the teachers to get their own back for any talking after lights out 😀

We were sad that Jade had to leave early due to her trampolining injury, but pleased to report that she is well - your friends miss you already and wish you a speedy recovery!

We’ve been so proud of the children over the past couple of days and particularly the fact that both our staff and the PGL staff have noted their excellent manners and behaviour.

“Wentworth children are so polite, they are always saying please and thank you!” - PGL staff

“Group 2 were outstanding today!” - Mrs Potts

“They all dealt so well with the challenges of the day” - Miss Skipp

“I am so pleased about the number of people who have said about the blue hat group’s manners!” - Mr Pollock

Our evening activity was a campfire, where children toasted marshmallows and went on a strange round the world adventure with some either stranger songs. Please do ask for some PGL anthems when the children return… “Everywhere we go!”

An earlier bed time this evening as we prepare for the lost hour… wish us luck!
