Term 4 2022 - PE

Year 1

In their outdoor PE lessons Year 1 children have been working on mastering the basic movement of throwing this term. They have also been improving their co-ordination and agility working with a partner to practice their throwing and catching skills.


The children moved onto hitting a bat with a ball, learning how to hold the racket correctly. It was hard to hit the ball with control to start off with but as the term developed the children were able to control the ball with greater accuracy.


Their learning culminated in participating in a team game of tennis rounders. Including learning basic rules, discussing simple tactics, and working as a part of a team.





In their indoor PE lessons, the children have had the chance to practice their gymnastic skills this term. They have been working on their balance, agility, and co-ordination by learning some basic gymnastic shapes including: a pencil roll, egg roll, dish roll and star shapes. The children were able to control their muscles enough that only some point and patches of their bodies were in contact with the floor. The children needed strong core muscles to achieve the desired body control. They showed courage when faced with putting their trust in their bodies to hold themselves up and were not afraid to give each new skill a go.





Year 2

The children in Year 2 have been lucky to benefit from professional cricket coaching provided by Chance to Shine Cricket this term. The children were given the chance to play, learn and develop through cricket.


The children have been encouraged to master the basic movements of throwing and catching, as well developing their balance, agility, and co-ordination. They were then able to apply these new skills in team games.


The children had to show our school value of resilience to bounce back when skills were hard to learn, or something went wrong.





In indoor PE the children have had the opportunity to learn new dance skills. They have been focusing on how to move in time with the music co-ordinating their arm and leg actions which included marching and clapping at the same time. The children also learnt how to work and interact with a partner.





Year 3

The children in Year 3 have loved taking part in the school swimming program this term. They have been learning to swim competently and have shown great courage with some children stepping into a swimming pool for the first time. The children have also shown great resilience when practice a range of different strokes, improving each week.


In indoor PE Year 3 have had the chance to try Yoga for the first time. They have been working on developing their flexibility, strength, technique, control, and balance to explore new poses.


The children shown they could maintain a stillness and quietness for a period. They also reflected on how yoga made their body feel.








Year 4

Year 4 have had a fantastic term in PE which ended in many of the children competing outdoor and adventurous activity challenges at the Kingswood activity centre. The activities challenged them both individually and as a team. The children showed the school values of courage, curiosity, and resilience in each activity. Activities included an

obstacle course, abseiling and Jacob’s ladder. A fun time was had by all.


Year 4 children have also been practicing their throwing and striking skills in their outdoor PE lessons. The children have been playing competitive tennis games to apply their new skills to attack and defend by serving and returning the ball with precision and skill.



In their indoor PE lesson Year 4 have been developing their flexibility, strength, technique, control, and balance in their gymnastic lessons.


The children have learnt to form a range of shapes and worked on how to move from one shape to another and build their own sequences.
