Year 4 PGL Grosvenor Hall 2026

Year 4 were bright-eyed (and impressively cheerful!) for an early start this morning as we gathered in the school hall to meet our group leaders and find out our activity groups. Excitement levels were high as children boarded the coach with their friends, ready for our overnight adventure to PGL Grosvenor Hall.

There was plenty of singing on the coach as we travelled, setting the tone for a brilliant couple of days ahead. On arrival, children were immediately met with their first challenge: carrying their own bags to the baggage store. For a trip lasting just one night, the size and weight of some bags was quite remarkable! Nevertheless, the children rose to the challenge with enthusiasm so that activities could begin promptly.

Throughout the day, children have taken part in a fantastic range of activities, including fencing, climbing, and problem-solving challenges.

We were particularly impressed during the Towers of Hanoi activity, where excellent teamwork and leadership were on display — especially from Olivia, who led her group with confidence. Bonny also impressed us with her problem solving skills – whilst also remaining positive and encouraging others.  You might like to try this puzzle at home to see if your child remembers the strategy involved!

Miss Atkins was also very pleased with Lacey who has been encouraging others all day; Diana and Rebecca are also naturals at fencing – potential future Olympians!

Lunch was thoroughly enjoyed, with pizza and wedges proving a popular choice, followed by a visit to the gift shop where some highly prized PGL souvenirs were purchased. The afternoon brought more exciting activities, with the zip wire being a particular highlight and a real confidence booster for many children.  We were so proud of Charlie and Riley who were hesitant at first, but managed to zip down after some gentle encouragement.

Mrs Archdeacon was impressed by how confident Presian was when bouldering in the climbing session.

This evening, children enjoyed their dinner before heading to their dorm rooms — which, for many, has been one of the most exciting parts of the experience so far. Quite how the rooms became so untidy in under an hour is impressive!

Later, we gathered for a campfire activity where children learned some enthusiastic “repeat after me” songs. I suspect you may hear these performed when we return home. After a warming cup of hot chocolate, children headed back to their dorms to get ready for bed (yes, teeth really do need brushing!), with lights out at 9.30pm.

As I write this, all is quiet across the site — a clear sign of very happy and very tired children. The trip has got off to a wonderful start, and the children have represented the school brilliantly throughout the day. My thanks to all of the staff for supporting the children so superbly.

We are all looking forward to another exciting day tomorrow.
