Year 4 arrived at school excitedly for their overnight residential stay at Kingswood Activity centre. As children were put into their groups, they started to learn the names of new friends and also some interesting facts about their peers. Who knew that the group would contain the following:

  • A child with their own Youtube channel

  • A child who can turn their leg 180 degrees

  • A child who can throw a carrot into a cow's mouth!

Children travelled down on their two coaches, with Miss Boreham leading the singing of the Wentworth song on coach 1 and the children on coach 2 chattering excitedly about the trip.

On arrival at the centre, children had a full tour of their new surroundings before heading off to their first activities. Some children worked together to create the tallest structure in the Team Tech activity, whilst others set about attacking the challenging climbing wall. Ollie said, "The rock climbing was fun and scary when you come down! The harness was so tight and it made you quite uncomfortable. I was proud of myself as I got up to the top twice - next time I might challenge myself some more. My strategy was to look at the wall and not look down or up."

Nightline, a blindfolded obstacle course was a favourite amongst the children, particularly in the mudddy areas of the course - watch out for dirty washing parents! Anemone said, "In nightline, you were blindfolded and had to follow a rope on your hands a needs. Sometimes the rope was covered so you had to follow people's voices. Mr Pollock kept on pouring water on us to make the course more muddy. It was fun".

After lunch, children had the chance to visit the famous Kingswood shop to purchase some souvenirs. Our afternoon activities saw some children taking on High Equilibrium (a seesaw in the sky!) and demonstrating extraordinary bravery! Following these activities children were shown to their dorm rooms where they persevered with getting their duvet covers on and also enjoyed some free time. Niamh said, "It has been amazing so far. My favourite part was when we got to go into our rooms and when we went to the shop. I've still got one pound left!"

Children enjoyed their fish and chip dinner before heading to the movie night. We had a few children dozing off during the film - the sign of a great but tiring day! Children headed back to their rooms and got themselves ready for their night away. An early start and more activities await them in the morning...
